RKS Roofing Contractors were recently selected to undertake a large re-roofing project for a client in Copmanthorpe. The existing roof, before work commenced was the original pantile roof; works included the installation of lead valleys, lead flashings to the chimneys, Installation of ridged board insulation and installing shiplap UPVC to the dormers.

The client had recently bought the property and wanted a full re-roof completing, plus, while the roof was stripped of its existing tiles and underfelt, some ridged board insulation installing to help lower his utility bills and keep his home warmer, whilst also improving the energy efficiency of the house.

The roof was stripped of its existing pantiles, felt and batten. We managed to salvage 90% of the existing roof tiles to be reused. The salvaged tiles were brought down off the scaffold and cleaned with a jet wash for re-use.

When the roof was stripped we noticed that sections of the roof were not supported correctly and hired a structural engineer to carry out calculations and instruct us on how to make the roof structurally sound. This involved installing some new spars and purlins to sections of the roof.

Once the roof had been made structurally sound we installed some ridged board insulation, this was friction fit between the rafters of the roof. All joints were sealed with reflective foil tape. Felt and batten were installed to the roof as normal and the roof re-tiled with the reclaimed pantiles. The extra tiles we needed to complete the roof were sourced by ourselves through a local reclaimed roofing material specialist.
